Somewhat good news for Grand Theft Auto enthusiasts, the sixth mainline is due out in Autumn 2025. Insider Gaming spotted this reference within a Securities and Exchange Commission report by publisher Take-Two Interactive that reiterates their plans to release GTA 6 in mid-late 2025.
It further stated: “Rockstar Games continues to invest in the franchise and is planning on releasing Grand Theft Auto VI in Fall 2025.” GTA Maker Rockstar Games is a wholly-developer subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive Software along with 2K Games, Private Division, and Zynga. This flies in the face of previous reports, rumors that GTA 6 wouldn’t drop till 2026.

That’s Not to Say a Delay for the Game is off the Table; As of Now it Hasn’t Been Officially Announced Delay. Just a few days ago Obbe Vermeij, former technical director at Rockstar Games has proposed that, the game is maybe not finally dated up to 4 months before the actual release.
Possible Delay in the Release Date
The decision to delay gtaIV was made 4 months or so before the original release date. Any further and it's hard to make the call. R* is probably not in a position to determine whether they will hit 2025 until May-ish.

“Delaying GTA IV was decided 4 months-ish out from the original release date. Any further and it’s kind of hard to make the call. R* is probably not going to be able to call 2025 until May-ish,” Vermeij posted on X, nee Twitter. “They’re not going to release the game until they’re 100 per cent happy with it. No matter what it said in the trailer.”

That said, a public company like Take-Two Interactive Software will want to very carefully control the messaging around GTA 6’s release. They’ll want to curate the best possible outcome for their stock value.
It and Rockstar Games do have some reason to be so cagey about the super hugely anticipated title. Not only does it have multibillion-dollar expectations to fulfill, but in 2022 footage of a pre-Alpha build of the game was also leaked — a game developer’s nightmare.
After that, Rockstar Games put out only one more video: the trailer unveiled in December. That clip has now surpassed 210 million views on YouTube, making it the fastest non-music video to 50 million and beyond. It took just under 10 hours for it to hit that benchmark.
Platforms for GTA 6 Release
It is highly probable that when GTA 6 finally drops, except for some major industry disaster, we will already have the Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 Pro to play it on. Yet to this point, Take-Two Interactive Software has only confirmed the game is coming to “PlayStation 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems”
